Does the Doomsday Argument dash hopes for an infinitely lengthy afterlife?

In this paper John Leslie considers the possibility that hopes for an infintely lengthy afterlife are doomed, given Brandon Carter's ‘doomsday argument’ against viewing ourselves as extremely early humans. He argues that the difficulty might be overcome in two ways -- one has to do with determinism and the other with thoughts about an infinite sequence of experiences.
